🇨🇳 Chinese coins pumping

& the biggest movie you've never heard of

GM everyone. This is 2036, the crypto newsletter that pays you.

A bunch of crypto coins are pumping - and they have one theme in common:

China.

You see, over the last few weeks, some heavily pro-crypto news have come out of China.

To kick it off, on February 17, China injected $120 billion into its own economy - in one day.

That's the largest cash injection ever done by the Chinese central bank in history.

China's trying to re-boost its economy after COVID.

But as this money trickles down to Chinese degen investors - just like the US stimulus checks in 2020 - part of this money will eventually find its way into crypto.

So we're cheering back.

Cameron Winkelvoss - who bought $10 million of BTC in 2013 - even thinks the next bull market could start in the East.

To be fair, he also owns this "my-bitcoin-went-from-$10-million-to-$6-BILLION-jacket", so who knows...

But there are more great news.

Hong Kong, the 4th largest financial center in the world - is considering re-opening crypto trading for individual investors.

It might even have the support of the government in Beijing.

Traditionally, Hong Kong has been a gateway for Chinese citizens to access world markets - including now, crypto.

This could be huge, and make the map of China look something like this:

Put this together, and we have:

  1. a Chinese central bank pumping a lot of money into the economy

  2. easing crypto regulation in Hong Kong

= Chinese crypto investors ready to YOLO.

That's where this new Chinese narrative comes in. Chinese investors like different coins than Western investors. Here's a non-exhaustive list:

We're not buying any of this, and we're not saying you should.

But we are saying YES to:

  • paying more attention to China in general

  • trying to understand it better

And for that, we turn to King Balaji 👑.

✅ Task: earn $15 in BTC for a glimpse into China

Balaji Srinivasan is a regular feature of this newsletter and a true crypto OG. He is a former CTO of Coinbase and general partner at a16z - the most prestigious VC fund on the planet.

Last year alone, he was on the Tim Ferriss podcast three times. And in one segment, he does a deep dive into China that, in our humble opinion, is unparalleled.

Now, to make today's task easier, you will have two sources you can refer to:

  • Balaji's thoughts on China directly from the podcast

  • A summary of the podcast written by yours truly

Which source you pick is irrelevant. The whole podcast is 5 hours. But the China section in the clip below starts at 8:40 and ends at minute 39.

And here's the Twitter summary:

So today's task is the following -

Step #1: Watch or read a summary of Balaji's thoughts on China from either source above

Step #2: Summarize the insights in your own words, and send them to us by filling in this form:

We'll select two submissions at random and send them $15 each.

And that's it for today, folks.

We're going to keep our eyes closely on China for more bullish news. And when anything comes up, you'll be the first to know, of course.

Tomorrow is Wallet Wednesday, our favorite task of the week.

Stay tuned. And until then -

P.S.: 2021 was a crazy year. But did you know the second-highest-grossing film that year - just behind Spider-Man - was a Chinese propaganda film called The Battle at Lake Changjin?

It depicts the US losing in the Korean War against China... and if you're trying to understand how the current Chinese government thinks, it's 100% worth checking out.

You can find it by googling it around curiously 👀
