What we most enjoyed this week

AI → Crypto?

This week marked the beginning of the end of the hyped interest in AI (more specifically LLMs - Large Language Models) and ChatGPT - exemplified by this Tweet:

… which builds on angel investor Jason Calacanis’ advice to crypto founders last month:

🤦

So what’s going on? Why now?

Well, turns out we’ve maybe just gotten used to freaking magic at our fingertips.

The LLM hype seems to be cooling down:

Tools like Chat GPT no longer blow users away. And some are starting to notice its mistakes.

One study estimates only about 2.4% of its math is accurate compared to 97.6% in March.

And Chat GPT user growth is down -9.7% in the last month.

But the end of the LLM hype is not the end of AI - on the contrary. AI is just getting started.

Last week, Elon Musk announced his latest company x.AI

And this week, Apple announced it’s working on its own version of Chat GPT. Wouldn’t be surprised if every other tech company is too.

NVIDIA - investors’ proxy for investing in AI - still plays a large role in keeping up the whole stock market:

a.k.a AI is here to stay.

Marc Andreessen - who wrote the most important essay on AI - Why AI Will Save the World (here’s a summary for readers of 2036) - was on Joe Rogan this week.

And Yuval Noah Harari, who wrote Sapiens and Homo Deus, was on Lex Friedman.

We think both conversations are worth listening to. Throw some Kevin Kelly into the mix, and you’ll know more about how to think about AI than most people.

So where does that leave crypto?

Well…how should non-human agents transact value?

If you are not a person, a company, or a government, you can't have a bank account or money per se.

Non-humans will prefer crypto because it’s built for them.

So buckle up - the LLM hype may die, the AI cycle may take off - but crypto will be there all along.
