What we most enjoyed this week

1/ The cities of the future are coming

I was on a plane the other day and saw an ad for a new city being built in Saudi Arabia called NEOM. This was the ad; if you want the longer version, watch this.

NEOM city

Futuristic cities built in far-away places are coming. Remote work has only accelerated this trend.

And the Saudis aren’t alone in this.

This week, Donald Trump called for the construction of new US cities from scratch that include vertical take-off vehicles (link).

And there are several under construction already in Honduras, Arizona and Utah.

Most cities seem to be doing it land first, community last.

But we think you can do it community first, land last.

As some of you may know, that’s part of what we’re building at 2036. More details to follow soon 👀

In the meantime, if you want to learn more about startup cities, read The Network State.

2/ Was Steve Jobs the real Satoshi Nakamoto?

It’s official: the bitcoin whitepaper is hidden on every Macbook in the world.

To find it, go into your search bar, open the terminal, and then type in:

open /System/Library/Image\ Capture/Devices/VirtualScanner.app/Contents/Resources/simpledoc.pdf

The bitcoin whitepaper will open up automatically.

We don’t know how long the whitepaper has been there. Some say years.

Naturally, people have started speculating that Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious founder of bitcoin, was actually Steve Jobs.

We have a different theory… one that we’ll share next week. So stay tuned.

You’ve probably all heard of ChatGPT by now.

Last week, the founder of Open AI, the team behind ChatGPT, was on the Lex Friedman podcast.

If you’re looking to learn more about AI this weekend - you should watch the interview.

And for those of you who love a good drama, read the secret history of Elon Musk and Open AI.

ARK Invest’s monthly Bitcoin report is out.

It is exactly what it sounds like. If you want to see how bitcoin held up in March, check it out.

5/ A couple of book recommendations…

This week, we went all out. We got copies of:

And after reading about Charlie Munger’s take on Koreans, we also bought the Tao of Charlie Munger.
