Bitcoin tokens - called BRC-20 tokens - are taking the crypto world by storm.

We wrote about them in Monday’s newsletter. If you haven’t already, read that newsletter first. TLDR: if bitcoin tokens catch up to Ethereum tokens, they could 300X from here.

So if you want to get in on the action, here’s how…

STEP 1: Get a Bitcoin wallet

To buy and store bitcoin tokens, you will need a bitcoin wallet that supports Ordinals.

The most popular choices are Xverse, Unisat, and Hiro.

I personally use Xverse. Just download the Chrome extension (or mobile app), open it, and create a new wallet:

NOTE: “Stacks” is another blockchain you don’t need to worry about for now.

Write down your seed phrase and create a password for your account. Remember: whoever has your seed phrase has access to your account. Keep it safe.

Once that’s done, you’ll have a screen that looks like this:

STEP 2: Send some bitcoin (BTC) to your new Xverse wallet

You will need some bitcoin in your wallet to purchase BRC-20 tokens.

To get your wallet address, simply click on your bitcoin balance —> receive.

That will give you your Bitcoin wallet address.

Copy this address and use it to send bitcoin from your existing bitcoin wallet (Coinbase, Binance, Samourai, etc.)

If you don’t have a bitcoin wallet yet, stick around for another Wallet Wednesday, where we’ll pay you to open a bitcoin wallet. And if you’re in a rush, just open a Coinbase account.

IMPORTANT: If you simply click ‘receive’ in the main menu, you’ll have 3 different addresses:

  • one for receiving bitcoin (BTC) from your other wallet

  • one for receiving your BRC-20 tokens and Ordinals

  • one for receiving Stacks

You’ll want to send bitcoin to your BTC address.

STEP 3: Head over to Unisat and connect your wallet

STEP 4: Click on “Marketplace”

Then click “ordi” and use the drop-down menu to search for tokens.

Two popular ones right now are $ORDI and $OXBT (not financial advice).

But you can browse around and find something you’re interested in. At this point, anything you buy is 100% gambling.

Note: you cannot buy a single token. The tokens are listed in batches of 3,000, 5,000, etc.

You can see the number of tokens you’re buying (= sats) and the total price in each box.

If all the batches are too big for your price point, just come back later and see if there are others available.

STEP 5: Click “Buy” and confirm

That’s the last step. Voila. You are now the proud owner of BRC-20 tokens.

Some people see them as the next hot thing in crypto. As a way for bitcoin to do to Ethereum what Twitter Spaces did to Clubhouse. ☠️

Yet others see them as a total fad.

Here at 2036, we don’t take sides. We simply inform.

To sell your tokens, you’ll need to go back to Unisat and approve the swap. We’ll make a short guide on how to sell soon.

In the meantime, if you’re willing to jump on the BRC-20 train, that’ll be today’s task.

📝 Task

Earn $20 in BTC for a simple crypto task

Today’s task is our classic Wallet Wednesday with a spin.

Step 1: Create an Ordinals-compatible bitcoin wallet (like Xverse, Unisat, Hiro)

Step 2: Send us both your Ordinals/BRC-20 and BTC wallet addresses by filling out this form.

Remember, your Ordinals/BTC-20 wallet address can be found by clicking “Receive” in the main menu of Xverse.

We’ll tally all the participants in a Google sheet and mathematically choose a winner at random who’ll receive $20 in BTC.

For transparency, the sheet will be viewable by all and sent out to you in Friday’s email.
