👀 ONE airdrop I'm paying attention to

PLUS: ETF flows are back

GM everyone. This is 2036.

Airdrops have been lucrative this year. The best way to qualify was to start staking coins last year.

But there’s a new airdrop I’m putting on my radar today.

It’s an interesting way to capture industry-wide gains in crypto gaming.

Gaming is an easy narrative for the non-crypto-native investor:

  • using blockchains, you can now own your in-game avatars, characters, and items as NFTs

  • you can sell these to other players legally, and you might even be able to move them from one game to another.

Because this narrative appeals to the 3 billion gamers who are largely outside of crypto, gaming tends to take off in the later stages of the cycle, when retail has arrived.

This means there’s still time to set up investments now and reap the major rewards later in this cycle (this is also why I still do private deals in gaming).

A great way to qualify for these rewards is with crypto gaming airdrops.

And I suspect a big airdropper this cycle will be Ronin.

Ronin is a blockchain built by Sky Mavis - the team that built Axie Infinity.

Ronin is designed specifically for crypto gaming. On top of Axie Infinity, it recently attracted Pixels, the current most popular crypto game with 1 million unique active players in the last 30 days.

Pixels was originally built on Polygon.

But they recently migrated to Ronin - hoping to replicate the success of Axie Infinity.

In the process, they airdropped their $PIXEL token to stakers of the Ronin token $RON.

And it looks like Pixels isn’t the only game that will do this.

Insiders expect ∼11 games to airdrop their tokens to Ronin stakers this year - including some of these labeled as ‘coming soon’ on the Ronin website:

So how much can you expect to make?

Well, on the $PIXEL airdrop…

  • $2.5 of staked $RON earned ∼$180

  • $135 of staked $RON earned ∼$675

  • $1,700 of staked $RON earned ∼$2,300

  • $20,800 of staked $RON earned ∼$4,000

… in other words, smaller stakers were disproportionally rewarded (which is why many people just staked small amounts on multiple wallets) - but the returns are still exciting.

Of course, not all airdrops will be as juicy.

But I expect we’ll see a number of lucrative airdrops for staking $RON.

For now, this is still a largely under-the-radar opportunity.

You can grab some $RON on Binance and stake it here.

  • click ‘launch app’

  • connect your wallet

  • in the dropdown menu on the left, select ‘RON staking’

  • select ‘governing validators’ (these have been vetted and verified by Ronin)

  • chose any from this list, optimizing for uptime and large brands (Animoca Brands, Yield Guild Games, etc.)

… and voila.

If you’re into gaming and want a way to get broad exposure to the ecosystem on the most promising gaming chain - then staking $RON might make sense.
