👀 ONE thing we're watching this weekend

PLUS: Balaji's investment thesis

GM everyone. This is 2036. We scroll for gems all day so you don’t have to.

Today is Favorite Friday, where we serve up the resources we most enjoyed this week 🍲.

So if you're looking for content to dig into this weekend, this is your list...

Balaji Srinivasan is both the ideological godfather of 2036 and one of the most respected voices in tech (not sure which label he’d be more proud of).

He:

  • holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford

  • co-founded and sold a clinical genomics company for $375M

  • bought bitcoin at $10 and taught one of the first courses on bitcoin

  • was formerly the CTO at Coinbase and a general partner at a16z

i.e. he’s an all-round cognitive powerhouse.

This week, Eric Jorgenson (author of the excellent Almanack of Naval Ravikant) released a book about Balaji - his most significant life lessons and outlooks on business and the future.

It’s (obviously) a banger, and I cannot recommend it enough.

[If you’re not entirely convinced, Balaji was on the Ranveer show this week. Of course, it was awesome.

If you’re like me, you probably hadn’t heard of the show despite its 6.4M subs. That’s a testament to one of Balaji’s investment theses: by 2030, most English speakers on the Internet will be Indians.

Yet most Westerners are unaware of this.]

Arthur Hayes dropped another essay this week.

This time, however - I gotta warn you - it’s dense and slightly technical.

If you prefer a shortcut, check out this excellent summary of Arthur’s piece written by Jay.

It’s short and easy to read.

Speaking of Jay, he also just published a great essay on Coinbase stock ($COIN).

$COIN tanked -17% this week but remains an interesting way to get exposure to crypto through your brokerage account.

$COIN is up +122% year-to-date.

Yesterday:

  • Sam Bankman-Fried testified at his own trial (and it didn’t go well)

  • Bloomberg dropped a 🔥 documentary on SBF

We’ve been waiting patiently for the documentary. And if you’re curious about crypto, fraud, FTX (or all of the above) - you should check it out. We’re for sure making it mandatory weekend watching.

It’s the story of the biggest financial fraud in history. To narrate it, Bloomberg interviewed the most legit people and biggest grifters in the crypto space.

Gotta love the controversy.

And if you enjoy controversial crypto tales, you’ll probably also enjoy this story of the man who lost $235 million of bitcoinsbut doesn’t want it back.
